Volkswagen’s plans by 2011

What will the future bring for Volkswagen? Nothing we didn’t knew already, but CarScoop brings us more exact dates.

First we will see the future generation Golf (Rabbit in the States) that will be available in most European markets by early 2009. Next will come the next generation Polo -in the summer of 2009. It will compete with Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 207.

At the end if 2009 the company will bring the new Touran 7-seater minivan and the Golf Plus, both of which are based on the Golf.

In early 2010 will come the all-new Passat Sedan and Station Wagon models and later in in the year, Volkswagen will unveil the second generation Touareg SUV that will go on sale in late 2010 or early 2011.

In the first quarter of 2011 will come the all new Beetle.

2008 Dodge Challenger

Soon after the first 2008 Dodge Challenger rolled out of the production line, Speedfactory hurried to get one in order to present their customization program.

The standard vehicle features the 6.1-liter supercharged Hemi V8 which delivers 496 hp but with the first supercharged level from the tuniner, which uses a new centrifugal style supercharger, the engine delivers an astonishing 600 hp! Also 20" staggered forged wheels were added to deliver better stability!

1971 Dodge Challenger R/T by Modern Muscle

Modern Muscle revealed the 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T, a car that retains its unibody construction, and has been equipped with a chassis upgrades by Modern Muscle. They call a vehicle built this way a "Muscle Car."

The chassis features a Modern Muscle independent front suspension that includes upper and lower control arms and power rack and pinion steering up front. In the rear, it features a four link suspension with coil overs. The result is superlative ride and handling. Big SSBC disc brakes and Modern Muscle signature forged wheels are yet further examples of how this Challenger features 21st century upgrades.

The car is powered by a 6.1 HEMI engine that delivers 597 hp mated by a 5 speed Tremec transmission.

Subaru today announced the debut of its new Subaru EXIGA in Japan. The EXIGA went on sale nationwide through Subaru dealerships today.

Based on the concept of a seven-seater with panoramic visibility for the touring experience, the EXIGA has been developed to provide a safe and pleasant journey for all occupants. Capitalizing on its accumulated know-how from building wagons and crossover SUVs, Subaru has succeeded in creating open and comfortable interior space for all the passengers to easily engage in conversation and share the experience of touring enhanced by dramatic wide-angle views through the windows.

The new model represents Subaru’s latest proposal for a new type of multi-passenger vehicle, built on Subaru’s strengths in vehicle stability, low noise, and quality ride —all realized by Subaru’s Horizontally-Opposed engine layout and the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (Subaru DC3).

The Exiga is being offered in four different versions: 2.0i is the basic model with selected standard equipment, priced in a more affordable range, 2.0i-L offers high quality finishes and expanded standard equipment, 2.0i-S is a sporty model with a naturally aspirated engine, featuring dynamic powerful styling and interior designs and 2.0GT is a grand touring car that combines potent powertrain performance with environmental considerations.


Development Concept: a Seven-Seater for Panorama Touring

  • Seven passengers
    • Despite a body size that’s convenient for maneuvering, the EXIGA comfortably accommodates up to seven occupants, ensuring ample space and a pleasant ride for each passenger. Excellent utility and comfort have been added through the adoption of new designs for better visibility, ingress/egress, and cargo space.
  • Panorama
    • A bright, open interior space has been created for passengers in any seat to enjoy the scenery outside. The vehicle’s low noise level allows all passengers to easily converse.
  • Touring
    • In addition to high levels of safety, both active and passive, the EXIGA blends high performance and smooth handling with high-quality riding comfort. The vehicle also offers excellent environmental performance and fuel economy.

Major Features

1. Packaging

  • The EXIGA has realized ideal proportions that provide the optimal body size for better handling, as well as ample interior space through its carefully calculated measurements of the height, width, length, wheelbase, floor size, and roof design.
  • Front and rear visibility is maximized by the creative design and positioning of pillars and windows.
  • The three rows of seats are laid out at three different heights, like gradually elevated theater seating, placing the first and second rows slightly lower than the third to allow all passengers better outside views.
  • A large panoramic glass roof fully covers area above the second row of seats and enhances the openness of the interior. The glass roof is available as an option on all models except the 2.0i.
  • Large rear door openings with wide plastic door sills are designed to facilitate ingress and egress, and the rear doors also open nearly 90 degrees for easy access to the third-row seating.
  • A double-wishbone rear suspension with reduced projection into the interior makes room for comfortable third-row seats and a wide luggage compartment.
  • The subframe between the rear suspension and the chassis helps to reduce vehicle noise and absorb vibrations from the road.
  • By using the newly designed resin fuel tank and optimizing the body frame structure, the floor has been made flat to provide spacious legroom for passengers in the third row.

2. Design

[Exterior design]

  • The EXIGA exterior design expresses the integration of the utility of a seven-seater and elegant styling.
  • Two distinctively different front grille designs are available. The naturally aspirated models possess style that highlights refinement and simplicity with flowing chrome-plated contours. The design for the turbo model stresses a sporty and muscular impression by adopting a powerful wing-shape embellishment in dark plating on a metal mesh background.
  • Headlamps are designed to provide depth from the front view. With a blue-tinted lens placed in the middle of the lamp, the design accentuates boldness and presence.
  • Each of the four EXIGA model types is equipped with distinctive wheels and individually designed spokes.
  • Eight exterior colors are available.

[Interior design]

  • Decorative insets with a horizontally flowing pattern from the center panel of the dashboard to the door trim add spaciousness and a quality look to the interior. Rich and refined interior design is further accentuated by the center panel, which combines wood and metal finishes, as well as by the indirect blue LED light installed on the overhead console, center tray and some foot areas.
  • Ivory tone that accentuates openness and light, and black tone, which highlights both sportiness and elegance, are available as interior colors.
  • The seats are newly designed to firmly support the occupants and reduce fatigue, even during a long drive, and the seat cushions are made thick to effectively absorb vibration and provide comfort.
  • The meter module on the instrument panel is distinctively designed with the meter background faces illuminated in blue to make the white dials clearly readable. The Sport Luminescent Meter, outlined with chrome-plated meter rings, is available on the 2.0GT, 2.0i-L, and 2.0i-S.

3. Utility

  • By removing the headrests, the front seatbacks can be tilted back flat to provide room for occupants to lie down.
  • The left and right seats of the second row independently slide back and forth in a range of 180 mm. The seatbacks fold down easily with one-hand operation of the walk-in mechanism, allowing easy access to the third row seats.
  • The third-row seats employ reclining mechanisms for more relaxed travel. The seatbacks fold down flat with easy operation to provide expanded cargo space in the back of the vehicle.
  • Hooks for hanging bags, retractable hooks and 12-volt power outlet are provided in the cargo area.
  • Thanks to reduced projection into the interior of the wheel housing and rear suspension, the cargo floor has been made flat. The cargo space offers two tiers. There is a layer under the cargo floor board that offers more space for storing small items. Even tall items like baby strollers can be placed vertically in that space without the need to fold them and lay them on the floor.
  • Courtesy lamps are mounted inside of all doors for better egress/ingress at night.
  • Blue lights illuminate the inside of the instrumental panel recesses, the center console, and the foot of the first and second row seats. They are not only useful at night but serve as elegant and premium quality décor.

4. Powertrain

  • (1) 2.0-liter DOHC Engine (2.0i, 2.0i-L, 2.0i-S)
    • The use of a redesigned DOHC cylinder head and the active valve control system (AVCS) promotes excellent environmental performance. Also better fuel economy is realized through adoption of the regular gasoline engine.
    • With the optimization of the diameter and length of the intake manifold, and the adoption of the equal length/constant pulsation independent exhaust system, the engine’s intake and exhaust performance has been elevated.
    • Two catalytic convertors have been placed in tandem. The layout enables the convertors to quickly heat up, which facilitates catalytic activation during engine startup and improves on emission reduction efficiency.
    • By expanding exhaust capacity with the twin mufflers, air flow resistance inside the mufflers is reduced, and excellent engine output characteristics and noise reduction are realized.
    • The electric control sensor system helps reduce engine load and further improve fuel economy by controlling electric generation according to driving conditions.
  • (2) 2.0-liter DOHC Turbo Engine (2.0GT)
    • A lightweight, resin-based intake manifold is used. The inner walls of the manifold are smooth and less resistant to the intake flow, elevating intake efficiency.
    • The turbo charger was exclusively developed for the EXIGA. Optimization of its A/R and compressor, as well as a redesign of its turbine vane, have distinctively improved low-end torque and made powerful and responsive acceleration possible.
    • Also adopted is a secondary air system that forces air into the exhaust port to burn out any gasoline remaining in it. The system helps eliminate harmful substances when the powertrain is still cool, and it promotes early activation of a catalytic converter.
    • Through optimization of the construction of the intercooler, the pressure loss is kept at a minimum to improve cooling efficiency.
    • The electric control sensor system helps reduce engine load and further improve fuel economy.

5. Drivetrain and Chassis

  • Lightweight and compact 4-speed AT with the SPORTSHIFT gear selection is standard on all 2.0 liter naturally aspirated models. By optimizing the final gear ratio, as well as through reducing friction among part assemblies, driving performance has been enhanced and fuel economy improved.
  • 5-speed AT with the SPORTSHIFT gear selection is standard on 2.0 liter turbo models. The down-shift blipping control is added to enhance smooth gear change response when shifting down in manual mode.
  • The SI-Dive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) system on the 2.0GT model offers three different modes of driving for the driver to enjoy: Intelligent; Sport; and Sport Sharp.
  • The Active Torque Split AWD system is mounted on all naturally aspirated engine models. The turbo model comes with Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) system. Both systems distribute optimal torque to the wheels with the firm grip and traction, providing unrivalled vehicle stability.
  • Integrating robust body structure with finely tuned chassis elements, all models feature Subaru DC3, which ensures outstanding handling and vehicle stability as well as superb riding comfort.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a strut-type front suspension, which is made lightweight and resilient. Newly designed cross-members and stabilizers yield excellent steering response.
  • A double-wishbone rear suspension with optimized suspension geometry settings provides exceptional traction and vehicle stability, as well as riding comfort, even at full occupancy.
  • All models employ four-wheel ABS disc brakes with EBD (Electric Brake-force Distribution) for superb braking performance. The Brake Assist system and a brake booster with unique tie-rod design appropriately maximize braking control.
  • Two types of tires, 205/60R16 and 215/50R17, are available. Both are capable of balancing various vehicle elements, including stability, braking, comfort, and mileage.

6. Body Construction and Safety

  • The EXIGA uses an advanced form of Subaru’s proprietary Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame Body Structure. Through streamlined body construction and the extensive use of high-tensile steel, the new model has achieved high body rigidity and light weight.
  • A cowl stay enhancement is used to connect the front side frame and A pillar, and supportive cross-members have been adopted to further improve steering response and increase vehicle stability.
  • The EXIGA, with its advanced frame construction, has realized high levels of safety and crash-worthiness through effectively absorbing and dispersing crash impact in frontal, side-, or rear-impact crashes.
  • By enhancing impact absorption in the front bumper and incorporating structural changes to the hood, the new model addresses safety features for pedestrians and other vehicles in collisions.
  • The front wiper system features a new uniform-pressure, fin-shaped design that creates downforce to prevent blade lift-off during high-speed driving.
  • Dual SRS (supplemental restraint system) air bags are standard on all models. SRS side air bags and curtain air bags that protect the third-row occupants are manufacturer’s options..
  • All pillar trim adopts impact-absorbing structures. To reduce the risk of whiplash injuries in a rear collision, the seatbacks employ new impact-absorbing designs.
  • A collapsible brake pedal is available on all models to reduce the risk of foot injuries in frontal collisions

Lamborghini today revealed new official images of the Gallardo LP560-4, the successor for the most successful Lamborghini ever, the Gallardo.

The Gallardo LP560-4 is powered by the new 5.2 litre V10 engine with an output of 560 hp at 8000 rpm. The LP560-4 accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, its speed at 11.8 seconds is 124 mph and its top speed lies at 201 mph.

Porsche unveiled today the first details about the 2009 911. The official debut will be made on 5 July. The European prices are as follows: 69,600.- for the Carrera (Euro base price). The Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S both retail at Euro 78,000.- (Euro base price), and the Carrera S Cabriolet is entering the market at Euro 88,000.- (Euro base price).

911 Carrera is powered by a 3.6-litre power unit with an output of 345 hp (up by 20 bhp). Carrera S is powered by a 3.8-litre power with an output of 385 bhp unit (up by 30 bhp). The Carrera S Coupe now offers a top speed of 186 mph.

The new generation of the 911 is available for the first time with the new Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK), Porsche’s double-clutch gearbox. Offering no less than seven forward gears, the new gearbox combines the driving comfort of a converter automatic transmission with the dynamic gearshift of a sequential racing gearbox.

The new generation of the 911 stands out clearly at first sight through innovations in design both front and rear as well as new lights with LED technology. LED daytime driving lights and bi-xenon headlights now standard on all new models in the Carrera range give the silhouette of the 911 even more distinctive style and a truly unique look, interacting with new LED rear lights to ensure an unmistakable and striking appearance also at the rear. And as a further safety option, Porsche now also offers Dynamic Bending Lights on all models.


Starting on 5 July, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is introducing the next generation of the 911 model series. The four new models – two Coupés and two Cabriolets – with classic rear-wheel drive offer an even higher standard of dynamic performance thanks to their all-new flat-six power units displacing 3.6 and, re-spectively, 3.8 litres. And the introduction for the first time of direct fuel injection on a Porsche sports car, together with the optional double-clutch gearbox Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK), makes the new 911 even more sporting and dynamic.

At the same time these new technologies enhance the already outstanding efficiency of the 911 to an even higher level than before: Featuring PDK, the Carrera Coupé offers outstanding fuel economy of 9.8 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 28.8 mpg imp. And with all new Carreras remaining significantly below the fuel consumption benchmark of 11 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 25.7 mpg imp, CO2 emissions are down by up to 15 per cent.

Maximum output of the 911 Carrera with its 3.6-litre power unit is up by 20 bhp to 345 bhp (254 kW). Output on the 911 Carrera S with its 3.8-litre power unit is equally impressive, up by 30 bhp to 385 bhp (283 kW). With this extra power, the Carrera S Coupé now offers a top speed of slightly over 300 km/h or 186 mph.

The new generation of the 911 is available for the first time with the new Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK), Porsche’s double-clutch gearbox. Offering no less than seven forward gears, the new gearbox combines the driving comfort of a converter automatic transmission with the dynamic gearshift of a sequential racing gearbox. And since PDK also boasts an automatic gearshift function, it replaces the former Porsche Tiptronic S automatic transmission on both the Carrera and Carrera S. Through its optimised and adaptive gearshift programs, PDK improves the car’s acceleration and reduces fuel consumption to a level even lower than before.

Porsche developed this gearshift principle featuring two clutches to shift gears without the slightest interruption of traction and pulling power and without even the slightest break in between gears no less than 25 years ago for motorsport. Porsche works drivers benefiting from this technology were able to accelerate faster than their competitors and keep both hands on the steering wheel while shifting gears, thus avoiding even the slightest distraction while shifting. The pioneering achievement from back then now gives the new 911 Carrera even better performance: Equipped with seven-speed PDK, the Carrera Coupé accelerates in 4.5 seconds from 0-100 km/h, another 0.2 seconds faster than with a manual six-speed gearbox. And the customer in search of optimum driving dynamics even has the option to combine PDK with Porsche’s optional Sport Chrono Plus including Launch Control. The result is high-speed acceleration free of slip from a standstill and a racing gearshift, with the car accelerating to 100 km/h in a truly outstanding 4.3 seconds.

Audronis Gestautas, a Lithuanian car lover took a Mercedes CL and transform it into a car that will turn all the heads. is true, not all of them with admiration.

As you can see from the photos the exterior design can’t be something everyone can like. After all not all of us prefers 30" inch wheels on the front and 40" rear ones!

Audronis Gestautas called his creation AG Excalibur, you can easily understand why!

And to go with the exterior design, Audronis added a "few" Swarovski crystals on the interior: the biggest one has 25 cm and is in fact the gearshift lever.

Seat presented in Madrid a new version for the Leon. Named Linea R, the new sporting package comes to complete the already rich offer of the Spanish maker.

Linea R will join versions like FR powered by either a 2.0 liters TFSI engine or s 2.0 liter TDI engine and the Sport-Plus powered by a 1,8 liters TFSI engine that delivers 160 hp.

Linea R is a new body kit offered for the Leon. On the exterior it includes sporty double exhaust, new aileron that continues from the roof, 18" alloy wheels. On the interior it features aluminum decorations that want to brighten the black interior, steering-wheel covered in leather.

The vehicle features a new bodykit which consists in a re-designed front bumper, new side skirts, widened fenders, re-designed rear bumper, rear roof spoiler and a new exhaust system.

At the interior the manufacturer added a state of the art sound system and due to the size of this, one chair had to be pulled away in order to make some room. Audi, the inventor of TDI, blazes a trail in the field of engine manufacture. At the 27th annual Lake Wörther Tour being held at the end of May in the Austrian province of Carinthia, the brand behind the four rings is showcasing this technology’s potential with a sensational study. The two-liter TDI unit under the bonnet of the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro delivers 224 hp and musters up 331.90 lb-ft of torque – the sort of pulling power normally associated with a sports car. The show car races from 0 to 62.14 mph in just 6.6 seconds and attains a top speed of 149.13 mph.

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro projects its power with supreme confidence – both acoustically courtesy of its sonorous exhaust and visually with a series of exclusive parts mounted on the body and in the interior. Exterior components such as the large DTM-look rear spoiler and the bolt-on wheel arch extensions give the car a dynamic air, while the racing bucket seats and open gear lever gate in aluminum form the highlights of the interior.

The show car is a true high-tech sports car. The drive power is directed to the 20-inch wheels via a six-speed transmission and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. At the front wheels, stopping power is provided by six-piston brake calipers and ceramic discs. The Audi drive select driving dynamics system allows the driver to vary at will the throttle response characteristic, the exhaust sound, the level of power assistance for the steering, the cut-in thresholds for the ESP stabilization system, as well as the operating mode of the dampers. The dampers deploy Audi magnetic ride technology, enabling them to react to changes in the driving situation with lightning speed.

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro

A TDI from Audi is more than just another diesel – it is, in fact, a dynamic power unit and a rich source of driving pleasure. At the 27th annual Lake Wörther Tour being held in the Austria province of Carinthia from May 21-25, Audi is demonstrating the potential of TDI technology with a very special concept study: the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro is powered by an engine delivering a whole 165 kW (224 hp) from its displacement of two liters. And with a torque of 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft), it endows the premium compact model with the pulling power of a sports car.

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro qualifies as an uncompromising sports machine in all other technical respects too. A six-speed transmission channels the engine’s power to the quattro all-wheel drive. 20-inch wheels keep the drive force glued to the road; behind the wheels at the front can be found brake disks made from carbon-fiber-reinforced ceramic. Using the Audi drive select driving dynamics system the driver is able to adjust the throttle response and exhaust sound characteristics, the steering’s power assistance, the ESP control and the damper characteristics as desired.

The dynamic image presented by the scintillating A3 study is rounded off by spectacular body styling and a high-class, sporty interior. Parts such as bolt-on wheel arch extensions and a large rear spoiler lend lasting impact to the exterior’s looks; the interior is dominated by the racing bucket seats in the front and the open aluminum gear lever gate.

The design

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro has a distinctly confident air about it. Sensational styling instantly sets the three-door show car apart from the standard production Audi A3. It measures 4,254 millimeters (167.48 inches)
millimeters/2.36 inches), but just 1,385 millimeters (54.53 inches) high, – a reduction in height of 36 millimeters (1.42 inches) in spite of the large wheels. The track width measures 1,568 millimeters (61.73 inches) at the front
(+ 34 millimeters/1.34 inches) and 1,553 millimeters (61.14 inches) at the rear
(+ 46 millimeters/1.81 inches).

The design team has kitted out the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro with a whole array of new exterior parts to give it an extremely sharp and dynamic look – almost like a racing car. The paint finish is also a picture of vibrancy: the engine hood, tailgate and roof are Ibis White and the flanks Brilliant Red, while a large white figure "8" is emblazoned across each door in reference to the year 2008. The color scheme is an allusion to the colors of the Austrian national flag.

The single-frame grille has grown slightly in width, which also entailed modifications to the engine hood. The grille’s bars – including pronounced vertical sections – have a high-gloss black finish. The bi-xenon headlamp assemblies are embellished by LED daytime running lights and wings. The front bumper incorporates large, square-edged air intakes, together with a blade section that juts a long way forwards and is slightly raised in the centre.

The modified front fenders feature bolt-on wheel arch extensions. The doors and the rear side sections – again with muscular wheel arch paneling – have been given a new, boldly contoured flare at the bottom. This blends together harmoniously with the door sills, which have themselves been restyled. The exterior mirror housings, with their arms that look to have been crafted by the wind, are likewise new. The tinted glass used for the rear windows gives the model yet greater visual presence.

The tail of the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro sports a dark grey diffuser. It is a variant on the design of the front blade, and incorporates the two large circular tailpipes of the separate exhaust branches. Modifications have also been carried out to the tail light assemblies. The most striking impression, however, is made by the spoiler atop the rear window that bears a close resemblance to the part featured on the new A4 race car from the German Touring Car Masters (DTM).

Inside the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro, the eye is immediately caught by the illuminated door sill trims with their "TDI Power" badging. Awaiting the driver and front passenger are anatomically shaped bucket seats, just like those found in motor racing cars. The rear seats sport the same upholstery design, with special foam padding used to sculpture them into roomy and comfortable individual seats.

The driver takes hold of an elegantly styled steering wheel with a flat-bottomed rim that is reminiscent of the Audi R8 high-performance sports car. The scales of the dials are colored white, the monitor for navigation and entertainment together with its control panel stems from the R8. The jet-style air outlets have multi-way adjustable louvers, and the usual buttons in the center console have given way to classic, sporty toggle switches. The bars underneath the console are covered in leather, the door handles have been milled hollow to save weight. The door linings and floor mats have been newly designed.

The drive train

The high-performance TDI under the bonnet of the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro is like nothing that has gone before it. From its displacement of just 1,968 cc, it summons up an output of 165 kW (224 hp). Torque – the true measure of effortless motoring ability – peaks at an exhilarating 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft), which is on tap from just 1,750 rpm; in other words, the very bottom of the rev range. As for in-gear flexibility, the diesel model leaves its gasoline-powered rivals standing.

The mighty TDI bestows the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro – which tips the scales at just 1,475 kilograms (3251.82 lb) – with pulling power befitting of a sports car. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) is over in a fleeting
6.6 seconds and the speedometer needle keeps rising all the way to 240 km/h (149.13 mph).

The four-valve sports engine is smart too; it responds spontaneously to the throttle and pampers the occupants with the low-vibration running of its mechanics. On an acoustic level, however, it proudly proclaims its abilities for all to hear: the exhaust system is a new development, with controllable resonance chambers on both tailpipes to amplify the rich, sonorous sound.

The engineers took as a basis the undersquare engine (bore x stroke = 81.0 x 95.5 millimeters) with an output of either 103 kW (140 hp) or 125 kW (170 hp), depending on the configuration, and added to it an optimized turbocharger. The advanced design of its blades allows it to supply more air; as in the series-production version, the variable geometry of the turbine’s blades ensures spontaneous response.

The 2.0 TDI, which is managed by one of the most sophisticated control units currently available on the market, is brimming with high tech. Fuel injection is handled by a common-rail system with piezoelectric injectors and eight-hole nozzles. The high-precision metering of as many as five injections of fuel per power stroke has the effect of audibly reducing the noise level. The system operates at a pressure of 1,800 bar – this results in extremely fine atomization of the fuel which, together with the revised piston geometry, makes the combustion process a highly efficient one.

The engine’s intake manifold houses swirl flaps that generate a tumbling action in the inflowing air; electric motors regulate the flaps’ position so that this tumbling motion is always perfectly suited to the current load and engine speed. Two balancer shafts in the engine reduce the degree of vibration in the crank drive. The drive unit for the belt that propels the two camshafts has also been reworked with a view to improving the engine’s acoustics.

The engine: low on emissions, high on efficiency

In its high-performance 165 kW (224 hp) version, the 2.0 TDI unit is still able to make use of a high proportion of recirculated and sharply cooled exhaust gas to achieve cooler combustion with lower oxygen levels – this brings about a substantial reduction in untreated nitrogen oxide emissions. The four-cylinder power unit already complies with the limits of the Euro 5 emissions standard, which is not due to come into force until September 2010 and whose foremost aim is to cut NOx emissions.

The ultra-efficient two-liter engine attains a power-to-displacement ratio of 83.8 kW (113.8 hp) per liter, and torque-to-displacement ratio of 228.7 Nm (168.68 lb-ft) per liter – figures which comparable gasoline engines are simply unable to match.

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro has been designed strictly in accordance with the principle of maximum efficiency. Power is transferred by a compact, transverse-mounted six-speed transmission whose casing is made from lightweight magnesium. The short-throw gear lever can be moved swiftly and precisely through a classic open gate made of aluminum. The transmission ratios have been adjusted and the components reinforced to make allowance for the TDI engine’s extremely high performance.

The engine’s power is transferred to the road with virtually zero losses thanks to the quattro all-wheel drive. The system’s key component is a multi-plate clutch which is positioned at the rear, thereby further optimizing the weight distribution. Under normal driving conditions, the electronically controlled and hydraulically operated clutch directs the engine’s drive power to the front wheels; whenever necessary, however, an infinitely adjustable proportion of the propulsive force can be diverted rearwards.

When altering the power split, the plates inside the clutch are subjected to high oil pressure, pushing them together – a procedure which is completed in a matter of milliseconds thanks to a newly designed pressure reservoir for the pump. The quattro drive constitutes the perfect power transmission system for the mighty two-door model, significantly enhancing traction, handling characteristics, stability and straight-line running, whatever the weather.

The chassis

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro comes equipped with a sports suspension that is more than capable of handling the formidable power. The front suspension – a classic McPherson layout – is pivoted on a light, high-strength aluminum subframe. A rack-and-pinion steering system with a direct ratio produces a sensation of close contact with the road. Power assistance is generated by an electromechanical drive unit for high efficiency, and its level decreases as the speed increases.

The rear suspension comprises four links per wheel which fulfill all manner of tasks. The trailing links absorb the propulsive and braking forces. As an aid to ride comfort, their configuration is relatively soft. The connections to the three transverse links, on the other hand, are rigid in order to direct transverse forces into the body with absolute precision. In this instance, the coil springs and shock absorbers are also kept separate from one another. The set-up is decidedly firm, while the body has been lowered by 36 millimeters (1.42 inches) compared to the standard production version.

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro rides on impressive ten-spoke wheels measuring 9 J x 20, which are in turn shod with size 265/30 ZR 20 tires.

Whereas the brakes at the rear wheels were borrowed from the series-production A3, their counterparts on the front would not be out of place on a supercar: six-piston calipers exert a vice-like grip on brake discs measuring 356 millimeters (14.02 inches) in diameter. The discs themselves are made of a material which has been of tremendous value to the aerospace industry, consisting of high-strength carbon fibers embedded in hard silicon carbide.

They have a lightweight construction, can withstand extreme levels of strain, are corrosion-free and have a service life in the region of 300,000 km (approx. 186,400 miles).

Motoring à la carte with Audi drive select

This system has control over a number of technical components that mould the motoring experience. In the show car, Audi drive select influences the engine’s throttle response, the sound from the exhaust system, the power assistance for the steering, the cut-in thresholds for the ESP stabilization system, as well as the damper characteristics. This is where the adaptive damping system Audi magnetic ride comes in: a magneto-rheological fluid circulating in the shock absorber pistons alters its viscosity – and, by consequence, the damping characteristics – in an instant when a voltage is applied.

The interplay between all these cutting-edge technologies makes the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro a thrilling road machine that is tremendously fun to drive. It darts into bends with exceptional spontaneity, and corners with stolid stability and at high speed, guided with unfailing precision by the sensitive steering. Its handling limits are extremely high, with just a minimal amount of understeer kicking in as the limits are approached. A sense of effortless, assured controllability is a key virtue of the A3 study – just as it is on all Audi models.

TDI engines – the superior drive force

Power, refinement and efficiency – ever since they first made their debut in 1989, the TDI engines from Audi have been synonymous with a sophisticated and smart form of sportiness, blazing a trail for the rest of the motor industry to follow. The triumphant advance that the diesel-engin\ been enjoying for two years now on race tracks around the world has delivered a powerful demonstration of its potential.

The R10 TDI has been causing a sensation since spring 2006, with its twelve-cylinder diesel powerplant ushering in a new era in the world of motor racing. The 5.5-litre TDI develops in excess of 1,100 Nm (881.32 lb-ft) – a torque figure that positively eclipses its gasoline-powered competitors. Its output of 650 hp translates into a top speed of around 330 km/h (205.05 mph).

One of the fortes of the R10 TDI is its low fuel consumption. And fewer fuel stops means a higher average speed – the car’s high efficiency was one of the key factors in its two successive victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Frank Biela (Germany), Emanuele Pirro (Italy) and Marco Werner (Germany) won in 2006 and 2007 in emphatic style. It is a similar story in the American Le Mans Series, where the diesel race car bearing the four Audi rings has racked up a string of successes, easily securing the constructors’ title in the large LMP 1 category in both years.

For the first time ever, superior TDI power from the race track can now be experienced in a series-production sports car – both the Audi TT Coupé 2.0 TDI quattro and the Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro feature a diesel engine. The two-liter four-cylinder unit delivers dynamic thrust, with a power output of 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque. Despite this, the TDI engine in the Coupé burns just 5.3 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 mpg) on average – a benchmark value in the sports car segment.

Also on show at the Lake Wörther Tour is the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans, whose drive train technology is closely related to that of the R 10 TDI. The high-performance sports car is driven by a six-liter V12, whose 368 kW (500 hp) of output and 1,000 Nm (737.56 lb-ft) of torque propel the world’s most powerful series-production TDI model to a top speed far in excess of 300 km/h
(186.41 mph).

2008 Dodge Viper

Helped by McLaren, Dodge will unveil - in the first quarter of 2007 as a 2008 model - the new Viper, powered by a V-10 engine with an output between 600-650 horsepower. The new generation Viper will compete with cars like Corvette Blue Devil and Ford’s new supercar planed to replace the GT.

The new Viper will feature new intake manifold, airbox, and radiator, much larger valve covers the fuel rail is larger in diameter. Bigger brakes are also planned to counter the increase in power and to allow the model to have a bette 0-100-0 performance.

Dodge intends to expand the horsepower in the new Viper. How? Working with McLaren and giving the new Viper a V10 engine (probably the one shown at SEMA in the ASC Diamondback Viper) with an output of 615 hp.

The 615hp Viper shown at SEMA features a carbon fiber roof, deck lid, rockers, fascia inserts, body trim and a massive OmniCarbon hood that shows off ten unique trumpeted air intakes, with individual port throttles, peeking through—a McLaren Performance Technologies feature reminiscent of McLaren Can-Am engines of the past.

Taken together with the powertrain modifications by McLaren Performance Technologies, the power-to-weight ratio was increased, resulting in an estimated increase in 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds.

Considering this, and the fact that maybe McLaren didn’t show the all power of their engine, the new Viper it is very probably to have an output arround 700 hp (just a rumor). The car will have a top speed arround 210 mph (est).

History

First generation Viper 1992-1995

The first generation Viper was introduce in 1991 with three pre-production models as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 when Dodge was forced to substitute it in place of the Stealth, and went on sale in January 1992.

The Dodge Viper was modeled after the classic American muscle car, though the idea of the AC Cobra being the inspiration is untrue as the Viper is far too large and heavy to claim the Cobra as its inspiration.

The centerpiece of the first generation was its engine. The engine was originally designed as a truck engine and was based on the Chrysler LA engine. Lamborghini revamped the Dodge cast iron block V10 for the Viper by recasting it in aluminum alloy, which gave the engine a substantial boost in power. The Viper engine also included four valves per cylinder. This engine produced 400 horsepower and 450 ft pound of torque at 3600 rpm. The Viper also boasts great fuel economy at 21 miles to the gallon.

Typical of American performance car design, it had a front-mounted engine driving the rear wheels; it was also heavy with a curb weight of 3,280 lb and lacked many modern driver aids such as traction control or anti-lock brakes. The model completed the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds and had a maximum speed of 164 mph.

Second generation Viper 1996-2002

Second generation models increased engine power, improved suspension, and reduced braking distances; the 1996 to 2002 Viper GTS had a 450 bhp engine, which could complete the quarter mile 0.7 seconds faster and increased top speed by 22 mph.

Viper’s previously exposed exhaust pipes now were enclosed. Routed through a single muffler at the rear, the exhaust system used two central tail pipes. Dodge claimed this reduced back pressure, boosting horsepower to 415 and torque to 488 pound-feet. Three color schemes were available this year, and only 500 roadsters were to be built before production moved to a new plant.

A removable hardtop was a new option. Vipers also got new side curtains with sliding glass windows to replace the former zippered plastic curtain. Restyled wheels wore Michelin MXX3 tires. In spring of 1996, a GTS coupe joined the original RT/10 roadster. The GTS was equipped with dual airbags, new seats with integrated safety belts, power windows, electronic door latching with an anti-theft system, adjustable pedals, 6-speaker CD system—and a new powerful (450-horsepower) engine.

In 2002, the end of second generation production was celebrated with the release of 360 commemorative "Final Edition" models. These models were painted red with white stripes, paying tribute to the famous race-winning Oreca cars.

Third generation Viper 2003-present

The next chapter of Dodge Viper continues to set the definition of extreme, yet features greater levels of refinement and finish. In other words, Viper retains its essence - its "Viperness" - while taking natural steps forward.

Those who have never driven or ridden in a Dodge Viper can scarcely understand the way the car translates torque into forward momentum, nor can they fully appreciate the turning and braking capabilities of its massive tires and disc brakes.

A new version of the Viper’s four-wheel anti-lock disc brake system, originally introduced for the 2001 model year, is enhanced for this next-generation car.

With a new bored and stroked aluminum engine block that increases the Viper’s displacement from 488 to 505 cu. in. and pushes its V-10 power output to 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque, Viper has no equal on the road.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The collaboration between Shelby and Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) is yielding an instant collector’s Mustang that builds 475 horsepower in its 5.4-liter supercharged V-8.

As expected of anything with Shelby’s name on it, the heart of the car is what’s under the hood. The Ford Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.4-liter, 32-valve V-8 evolves from Ford’s experience with tuning its modular, or MOD, engines. Output is a brawny 475 horsepower.

The engine is force-fed an air-and-fuel mixture via a "Roots-type" supercharger providing 8.5 pounds per square inch of boost. The GT500 uses a cast-iron engine block. It borrows from the Ford GT program aluminum, four-valve cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings, adding a high level of performance durability to the drivetrain. "Powered by SVT" camshaft covers add the finishing touch to the engine.

While the big block, overhead cams and four valves per cylinder contribute significantly to the 475-horsepower output of the 2007 Shelby GT500’s 5.4-liter V-8, a Roots-type supercharger and intercooler are the icing on the cake. In fact, the configuration is similar to the Ford GT supercar, offering the right combination of classic Ford big-block power and modern technology. Using the Ford GT as a blueprint, SVT has given the GT500 more total horsepower than any factory Mustang in the car’s celebrated history

In a recent interview with Piston Heads, the company’s new boss Peter Boutwood announced that the launch of the new M600 is near by. The car will be conceptually similar to a Ferrari F40 and will be limited to only 40 unit a year.

The car is currently under testings and development programme. The M600 is to be announced, but this will not happen before it has been completely and thoroughly tested.

It will however be a carbon fibre body shell, twin turbo V8 powered, with a six speed gearbox designed and developed for Noble by Graziano Trasmissioni.

The M600 will have no "absolute" competitors, but obviously it will appeal to those already in the high performance market; the nearest competitor Noble can equate in conceptual terms is probably the Ferrari F40.

The car will not have a convertible version and Noble will soon post the first images on its official web site.

The Audi TT Roadster, likewise featuring quattro permanent all‑wheel drive, takes just two-tenths of a second longer in the standard sprint discipline and has a top speed of 223 km/h (138.57 mph). The Coupe consumes on average just 5.3 liters of fuel over 100 km (44.38 mpg), representing CO2 emissions of only 139 grams/km; the figure for the Roadster is 5.5 l/100 km (144 grams of CO2/km). With the TDI in the TT series, Audi once again establishes its role as trendsetter on the diesel market. The brand with the four rings is pushing back the frontiers – starting at the very top.

The engine

The new four-cylinder TDI with its capacity of 1,968 cm3 signals the advent of a new generation of dynamic, ultra-efficient Audi diesel engines. It interprets the consistently impressive qualities of the TDI concept in a fundamentally new way. The two-liter power unit, featuring two camshafts, builds on the strengths of its predecessor, once the most-manufactured diesel engine in the world – high pulling power, impressive efficiency and refinement.

The new common rail injection system, run by one of the most advanced control units on the market, features ultramodern piezo injectors. Its eight-hole injectors can achieve up to five separate injection processes per combustion cycle. This fine-tuned approach produces a gentle pressure increase in the combustion chambers, decisively reducing the noise level. The single-piston high-pressure pump develops a system pressure of 1,800 bar. This allows fuel to form a fine dispersion, enabling precise, highly efficient combustion.

The turbocharger, too, belongs to a new generation. For a swift torque buildup it operates with adjustable vanes, and a special damper reduces its vibration. The engine’s intake manifold houses swirl flaps that generate a tumbling action in the inflowing air; electric motors regulate the flaps’ position so that this tumble is always adapted perfectly to the load and engine speed. The geometry of the engine’s pistons has been optimized, and the acoustics of the camshaft drive belt overhauled. Two balancing shafts reduce the second-degree inertial forces produced by the crankshaft drive.

High exhaust gas recirculation: low nitrogen oxide emissions

The cumulative result of this progress is a high maximum engine speed of 5,400 rpm and, most importantly, a significant improvement in thermodynamics in the combustion chambers. What this means is that the engine can run to a very large extent on recirculated exhaust gas that has been thoroughly cooled by the radiator. The cooler combustion process involving less oxygen drastically reduces engine emissions of nitrogen oxide.

Although the high exhaust gas recirculation rate is in and of itself detrimental to engine efficiency, in typical Audi style the engineers averted any undesirable increase in consumption and in fact turned this state of affairs to their advantage through intensive fine-tuning.

The 2.0 TDI in the Audi TT, with a compression ratio of 16.5:1, delivers 125 kW (170 hp) at 4,200 rpm. It puts a hefty 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) onto the crankshaft at engine speeds ranging from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm – the range where power really makes a difference to driving.

The four-cylinder power unit runs with little vibration and responds intently to the accelerator. Its superlative pulling power is available at virtually every engine speed, from rock-bottom upwards. It gives the 2.0 TDI an utterly distinctive, strong character – that of a beefy, clever sport engine.

The road performance reflects this character. The Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro easily leaves behind the competition with equivalent gasoline engines in mid-range acceleration and it sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 7.5 seconds, not looking back until it reaches 226 km/h (140.43 mph). The TT Roadster accelerates to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.7 seconds and keeps going up to 223 km/h (138.57 mph).

The TT Coupe and TT Roadster achieve average fuel consumption of just 5.3 and 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 and 42.77 US mpg) – equating to emissions of 139 and 144 grams of CO2/km respectively. In so doing, Audi is setting a benchmark that represents a veritable quantum leap in the sports car segment. The operating range of over 1,100 km (683.51 miles) on a single tank of fuel (Coupe) expresses this superiority in a directly tangible and impressive way. The Audi slogan "But where’s the tank?" from the classic TV commercial now has equal validity for its sports cars.

The TDI version of the TT easily shrugs off the challenge from its gasoline-engined competitors, too, when the figures that really count are closely scrutinized. Its specific output is 63.5 kW (86.4 hp) per liter of engine capacity, and its specific torque is all of 177.8 Nm (131.14 lb-ft) per liter. But the most impressive ratio is power to fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: At just 0.90 kW (1.22 hp) per gram/km, the TT 2.0 TDI quattro is truly in a league of its own when it comes to efficiency.

The drivetrain

In keeping with the theme of sporty performance, Audi has equipped its diesel-engine sports cars with highly effective manual six-speed transmissions whose short lever travel allows the driver to shift quickly, easily and precisely. The housings for these transmissions are made of lightweight, high-tech magnesium. Relatively long final transmission bring the drivetrain into line with the character of the TDI engine.

In light of their immense torque of 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft), Audi is equipping both of its new TT models with quattro all-wheel drive as standard. This decisively improves traction, slip-free acceleration, drivability, stability and straight-line running in all weather conditions.

The nerve center of the quattro drive in the TT is an electronic-control, hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch located at the end of the propshaft at the vehicle’s rear end – a position that improves the weight distribution. It distributes the torque continuously between the front and rear wheels depending on the driving situation. Thanks to a new pressure reservoir, the clutch works twice as fast as before, within a matter of milliseconds.

The chassis

The sports suspension likewise offers extraordinarily dynamic features. The front suspension – a classic McPherson layout – is pivoted on an aluminum subframe. A highly precise rack-and-pinion steering system with a direct steering ratio provides an intimate link between the driver and the road. Power steering with servo assist, which decreases as speed increases, is generated by an electromechanical drive far more efficient than a hydraulic pump.

The coil springs and shock absorbers in the four-link rear axle are situated in separate areas. The control arms, too, are carefully configured: The trailing links, which absorb the propulsive and braking forces, have a relatively soft characteristic to promote ride comfort. The connections to the three transverse links per wheel, on the other hand, are rigid in order to direct transverse forces into the body with precision.

Audi equips the Coupe and Roadster with 16-inch cast alloy wheels as standard, fitted with size 225/55 R 16 tires. Behind the wheels are large disk brakes with pads that develop high coefficients of friction. They measure 312 millimeters (12.28 in) at the front and 286 millimeters (11.26 in) at the rear; the front disks are ventilated. The ESP electronic stabilization program is optimized for a dynamic style of driving. A brief press of a button at lower speeds – e.g. when driving on snow chains – is all it takes to increase wheel slip. A longer press of the button takes the TT driver into a second, sporty operating plane in which the ESP permits controlled sideslip angles. The brakes intervene somewhat later than in normal operation and engine manipulation is suppressed.

Audi magnetic ride, a high-tech shock-absorber system available as an option, is an adaptive system that resolves the traditional conflict of interests between comfort and handling. A magneto-rheological fluid circulating in the shock absorbers changes its flow properties within milliseconds when a voltage is applied; this, in turn, alters the damping characteristic. The driver can choose between "Normal" and "Sport" programs by flipping a switch.

The body and interior

The intelligent lightweight design of the Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro is a key factor in its sporty performance. The 2+2-seater Coupe tips the scales at only 1,370 kilograms (3,020.30 lb) when unladen, with the two-seater Roadster weighing only slightly more at 1,415 kilograms (3,119.51 lb). The open sports car has a classic sport top – this is lightweight, keeps the center of gravity low, blends harmoniously with the overall styling, and occupies minimal space when folded down.

The low weight is the result of an innovative hybrid-design body developed by Audi. The forward structure is made of light aluminum components assembled using the space frame principle; steel is used for the rear structure.

This solution guarantees that the frame is as rigid as possible and optimizes load distribution between the axles. The bodyshell of the Coupe weighs 206 kilograms (454.15 lb); it weighs a bit more in the case of the Roadster – 251 kilograms (553.35 lb) – in view of the special reinforcements it incorporates.

Fascinating: the design

Both body versions present a fascinatingly powerful, emotional design. The 4,178 millimeter (164.49 in) long body comes across as muscular and dynamic. The nose end is dominated by the large single-frame grille, and there is an integral automatically extending spoiler at the rear. Subtle quattro badges identify it as a fundamentally all-wheel-drive vehicle. With drag coefficients of 0.30 (Coupe) and 0.32 (Roadster), Audi demonstrates how good design can produce a low drag coefficient, which translates into a higher top speed and better fuel efficiency.

The flowing dynamic style is echoed in the car’s interior. The driving area with its clear-cut instruments makes reference to the classic circle motif, as do the air vents and rotary controls for the automatic air conditioning, which has been integrated into the center console angled slightly towards the driver. The sport steering wheel with the flat-bottomed rim rests snugly in the hands. Perfect ergonomics and uncompromisingly high standards of build quality are a question of honor for Audi.

The height-adjustable sport seats are deep-set, providing a sporty seated position and firm lateral support. The backs of both rear seats fold down in the TT Coupe, making the trunk space grow from 290 to 700 cubic liters (10.24 – 24.72 cubic ft). The TT Roadster (250 liters (8.83 cubic ft) whether the hood is up or down) can also be supplied with the option of a useful load-through facility with removable ski bag.

The equipment

The standard equipment highlights the sporty character of both diesel-engined TT versions. The interior is accentuated by aluminum-look components in conjunction with inlays in Micrometallic gray. The sports steering wheel comes with a Nappa leather skin. The automatic air conditioning (optional for Roadster) regulates the heating and ventilation.

In the event of an accident there are two front and head/thorax airbags ready to protect each occupant of the front seats; the specially shaped seat backs and head restraints shield the driver and front passenger in a rear-end collision. Electric windows and exterior mirrors, the driver information system, front fog lights and the chorus audio system round off the standard specification.

The equipment options include an extensive range of high-tech features. These include the electrically adjusted front seats, the dynamic cornering light system by the name of adaptive light, a navigation system that shares the same operating principle as Audi’s incomparable MMI concept, and an ultramodern generation of audio systems. In addition to various leather equipment lines, three leather packages are available.

The TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro and TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro will be arriving at dealers in the first half of the year. The enclosed sports car version has a starting price of EUR 34,850 and its open-top counterpart EUR 35,900.

TDI engines in motor racing

Since first appearing in 1989, Audi’s TDI engines have been setting trends for the rest of the automotive industry to follow. With their power, refinement and efficiency, they have come to represent a modern, smart interpretation of sportiness. The run of victories celebrated by the Audi R10 TDI diesel race car at the Le Mans 24 Hours and in the American Le Mans Series is impressive evidence of the tremendous potential of this technology.

The Audi R10 TDI has been blazing a trail since early 2006 – with its twelve-cylinder diesel engine it has entered an entirely new dimension. The 5.5 liter TDI is a race engine of superior pedigree. Its torque far surpasses that of any gasoline engine, developing more than 1,100 Nm (811.32 lb-ft). At nominal engine speed it delivers over 650 horsepower, producing a top speed of around 330 kilometers per hour (205.05 mph).

The only minor problem encountered right at the start was due to the specific nature of the twelve-cylinder TDI – its very quiet running. The drivers of the open-top prototype – including multiple Le Mans winners such as the Dane Tom Kristensen and the German Frank Biela – had to get used to this fundamentally different attribute. Whereas they had previously been able to rely on the engine’s sound as a guide to its performance, above a given speed it was now no longer audible.

They soon adapted to the new situation, and the mighty diesel engine has since been demonstrating its strengths with resounding success. Among its virtues is fuel efficiency. Compared with its predecessor, the already very efficient R8 with gasoline direct injection, the Le Mans version of the R10 TDI was markedly more economical. Furthermore the Le Mans circuit, with its long straights and scope for 75 percent use of full throttle, does not provide a true reflection of its strengths.

Fewer stops for refueling mean faster times – so high efficiency was the key to two successive victories in the tradition-steeped French endurance race. In 2006 Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro (Italy) and Marco Werner (Germany) emerged as clear winners, completing 380 laps equivalent to 5,187 km (3223.05 miles) at an average speed of 215.409 km/h (133.849 mph). The same team of drivers again won in 2007, even though the organizers had capped the tank capacity of the R10 TDI. In difficult weather conditions Biela/Pirro/Werner clocked up 369 laps at an average speed of 209.152 km/h (129.961 mph).

The R10 TDI embarked on an impressive string of victories in the American Le Mans Series in the first half of 2006 – it won all eight heats in which it participated during the season. It again went from triumph to triumph in 2007, clinching the Constructors’ Trophy in the large LMP 1 category. The 2008 season got under way in mid-March, and Audi again relishes this sizeable challenge.

The Laguna Coupe will most probably be offered with 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and diesel engines generating between 140 and 201 Hp along with a top-notch 3.5-liter V6 unit.

The new Megane lets go of the current version’s weirdly styled arse for a more subtle design. However -no thanks to the heavy camouflage, that’s about all we can comment on Renault’s VW Golf adversary.

The Hybrid Aopollo will be powered by a combination of a 3.3 liter V8 engine and an 100 KW electric motor. The V8 engine has an output of 630 hp.

The car will compete with models like Porsche 911 GT3, Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Gallardo, BMW Z4 and Chevrolet Corvette.

Aston Martin announced that the customers who’ve put orders in for the DBS luxury coupe are going to have to wait about three months longer than Aston had originally intended, to take delivery of the super coupe. Shortages of some of the car’s one-off parts are the source of the hold- up, causing otherwise complete cars to remain unfinished.

Sources within Aston Martin say that the automaker is willing to make people wait, if it means getting the car right. The company isn’t willing to risk its reputation by using available parts that are slightly sub-standard.

The new Arnage will be even bigger than the model it’s set to replace. The increased length will ensure the new range-topper provides limousine levels of space inside. And for the first time ever, bosses are considering the possibility of using a diesel in the Arnage.

Also rumors say that the W16 engine from the Bugatti Veyron supercar is also under consideration for the big Bentley. It would be most suited to the range-topping Arnage T model, and have enough power to propel the four-door from 0-62mph in well under five seconds.

It was caught on the streets of Munich, in camouflage that still clearly reveals the shape and features of the upcoming model. Codenamed the “RR4,” this is the upcoming Bentley competitor from Rolls-Royce, the latest salvo by BMW in the luxury market.

The expected price, when introduced, will be about $250,000 to $280,000, which positions it below the $345,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Rumor has it that the new RR4 will be based on the next generation BMW 7 Series platform and feature a twin-turbo V8 derived from the one planned for the future BMW X6.

In profile, the RR4 seems less brick-like that the Phantom, and bears a resemblance to the softer lines of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur against which it will be direct competition.

Well...it’s true! According to Bimmerfile, a website for Bmw enthusiast, the X5 will not feature a M version and this for sure is not going to happen in the future. Although spy photos of the vehicle ,which was believed to be the M version of the Bmw X5, were taken on the Nurburgring race track it looks llike that was only the sport edition of the SUV featuring the 4.8 V8 engine.

Using the same power plant as the Bmw X6, the engine of the sport edition will develop 407hp which while the top speed is going to be limited at 250 km/h. The technical specifications of the new sport edition were not yet revealed but, according to the rumors the new car will be able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in less than 6 seconds.

But the diesel SUV launched this year at the Geneva Motor Show comes with a very bad news: it will be priced around 180,000 euro (that’s around $283.000 - almost 5 times the price of the Audi Q7 4.2 Premium! - $58,600). Sales of the Q7 V12 TDI quattro will start by the end of the year.

The Q7 V12 TDI quattro is powered by the world’s first V12 diesel engine that generates 500 hp of power and 1,000 Nm (757.56 lb-ft) of torque from six liters of displacement. It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 5.5 seconds while the top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h (but on the speedometer, the range extends up to 310 km/h).

Nissan will unveil a new version of it Qasqhai crossover on Monday. Named "Qasqhai+2", the new crossover will feature an additional third row of seats that are designed for children or small adults up to about 1.6m or 5.2 ft tall.

Compared to the standard Qashqai, the new version will feature a wheelbase extended by 135 mm or 5.3 in. taking it to 2,765 mm or 108.9 in. Overall, the Qashqai+2’s length has risen to 4,526 mm or 178.2 in., an increase of 211 mm or 8.3 in. over the five-seat version. Subsequently, the Qashqai+2 will also offer more luggage space compared to its 5-seater sibling, and in particular, almost 500 litres - an increase of 90 litres over the Qashqai.
